Starting a paid newsletter, beehiiv or Kit (ConvertKit)?

I'm starting a paid newsletter and the two names I keep hitting are beehiiv and Kit (ConvertKit). beehiiv looks built for newsletter growth and monetization; Kit looks better for automations and selling products. Anyone run both and have a clear take?

If the business IS the newsletter, ads, paid subs, referrals, beehiiv is hard to beat, and it keeps 0% of paid subscription revenue. If email is one part of a broader creator business (courses, products, complex funnels), Kit's automation and commerce win. They overlap less than they look.

That framing helps. It really is just the newsletter for now, with maybe a product later. Sounds like start on beehiiv and revisit if I add products.

Good plan. beehiiv's free tier keeps monetization on up to 2,500 subs, so you can validate before paying. Kit's free plan goes to 10k subs but disables the automations/commerce that make Kit worth it, so 'free' means different things on each.
